DEAR ABBY: I have been with my wife for 17 years. We have three daughters. She doesn’t work, doesn’t have a driver’s license, doesn’t clean and hardly ever cooks. I often discover myself so annoyed at her lack of dedication to the household that I drink and go to mattress after I cook dinner.
I work 60 hours a week to present for our household and am not receiving any help from my wife. I don’t know what to do. I do all the buying and take the women to dance three days a week (which suggests I have to depart work early). It causes dangerous arguments. What can I do to encourage her to change? — DOING EVERYTHING IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
DEAR DOING EVERYTHING: You state that your wife doesn’t work, doesn’t drive, doesn’t clean and hardly ever cooks. What does she do all day? Is she watching tv? Taking medication? Is she so depressed she will’t get out of mattress?
You shouldn’t be carrying the entire load your self, but consuming and going to mattress aren’t the reply. Ask your doctor or health insurance coverage company for a referral to a licensed psychotherapist who can help you unravel this mess. Nothing will change until you do.
DEAR ABBY: My daughter added her girlfriend to our household group chat last December. Now the girlfriend is accepting invites from members of the family that weren’t meant for her. Granted, she has been relationship my daughter for more than 5 years, but none of us like her or really feel snug around her. We’re afraid to say something due to our love for our daughter. How do we get her off the household group chat and stop her from being so invasive in our lives without hurting our daughter? — CLOSING RANKS
DEAR CLOSING RANKS: No matter what you do about the group chat, the end consequence will have to be a dialog with your daughter about the fact that her girlfriend isn’t welcome at sure household gatherings. Are you keen to have that discuss and face the implications? If not, it could be best to study to get along with the girlfriend and keep in mind that most people do not get to decide their in-laws.
If you might be decided that excluding the girlfriend is the way in which to go, start a new group chat and emphasize to your daughter that this one is for fast household only.
DEAR ABBY: When my husband handed away, his sister “Enid” and her husband, “Fred,” didn’t attend his funeral. Their grown son and daughter with grown youngsters of their own also missed the funeral. They claimed Fred had a doctor’s appointment. This made a complete of 10 people unable to come to the funeral. We all live in the same space, so there was no touring concerned. What is your opinion about me being upset? — BOTHERED IN THE EAST
DEAR BOTHERED: First, please settle for my deepest sympathy for the loss of your husband. You have a proper to be upset about Enid, Fred and their household skipping your husband’s funeral. A doctor’s appointment can often be rescheduled. Funerals are a different matter. The fact is, they selected to withhold their assist from you, which was inconsiderate, bordering on merciless.
