Newly launched declassified FBI memos reveal that the company quietly opened an investigation into whether or not U.S. President Donald Trump was performing as a Russian agent after firing FBI Director James Comey.

The White House revealed the news in a press release on Wednesday, where it detailed info obtained from the declassified FBI inner memos about a secret investigation called Oxferd Comma, which some allege was deliberately misspelled to keep the case off of peoples’ radars. The probe was described by an administration official as being a half of the bigger investigation, dubbed Crossfire Hurricane, into alleged collusion between Trump’s 2016 presidential marketing campaign and the Kremlin. Trump has always maintained his innocence concerning the allegations about Russia.

Trump officers have seemingly prompt that the investigation was politically motivated in response to Comey’s firing after the bureau widely dismissed the allegations about Trump being a Russian asset, according to the White House press release.

“The FBI is opening a full investigation based on an articulable factual basis that reasonably indicates that President Donald J. Trump may be or has been, wittingly or unwittingly, involved in activities for or on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation which may constitute violations of federal criminal law or threats to the national security of the United States,” the digital communication opening the probe on May 16, 2017 said, per the White House press release.

“The goal of the investigation is to determine if President Trump is or was directed by, controlled by, and/or coordinated activities with, the Russian Federation in a manner constituting a threat to the national security of the United States and/or a violation of federal criminal statutes,” it added.

“In addition, this investigation will also seek to determine whether President Trump and others yet to be named obstructed and/or conspiracy to obstruct any associated FBI investigation.”

Trump officers have famous that the case was designated as delicate, which, they explained, could be a means of protecting the case hush and off the radar of other brokers.

However, the brokers who determined to prosecute Trump argued that the investigation was the least invasive method to publicly tackle considerations about a potential national security risk posed by the allegations.
