LA retailers are betting on ‘brewtiques’ to turn…

In Tinseltown, retailers don’t just need your credit card anymore — they need your total afternoon.

A wave of manufacturers across Los Angeles are morphing their brick-and-mortar shops into sprawling lounge locations, full with specialty espresso bars, aesthetic food and smooth serve counters, cozy couches and breezy courtyards.

Dubbed “brewtiques,” these hybrid areas faucet a major shift in trendy retail: turning clothes boutiques into social gathering hubs where prospects can linger alongside racks of expensive designer threads.

For many customers, the cafe is the first hook.

Propelled by viral TikTok video and Instagram feeds, the excitement around these in-store espresso spots acts as low-stakes entry factors for newcomers who may never have walked in to browse the garments.

But now, they’re eagerly exhibiting up for the full branded lifestyle.

For some, getting an iced latte or matcha in a recognizable branded cup will be half of the appeal — an reasonably priced, extremely Instagrammable manner to buy into a fashion label’s lifestyle without essentially dropping big money on garments.

The latest entrant is cult LA denim model Mother, which not too long ago opened the doorways to its first flagship in Beverly Hills.

The 3850-square-foot store is designed less like a conventional boutique, and more like a groovy 1970’s home, full with mirrored boudoir-style becoming rooms, curved partitions, a espresso bar and a sunken round dialog pit where customers are encourage to settle in — with loos and free WiFi constructed into the expertise.

“We never wanted the store to feel like somewhere you walk into, buy something and leave,” Mother co-founder Lela Becker told The Post. “We thought about the space almost more like a house or a clubhouse than a traditional retail environment, and if you’re inviting people into your house, you should probably offer them something to drink.”

Asked if the beverage hook will get prospects to stick around, Becker didn’t mince phrases: “It’s still early, but that was absolutely the intention. We wanted to give people permission to stay.”

Over on Melrose Avenue, the brewtique development has reached a fever pitch.

Wellness model Sporty & Rich opened a flagship in July, full with a strawberry-themed cafe where prospects can lounge on pink velvet banquettes under retro tiled partitions and neon indicators, or hang around in the courtyard exterior.

With photogenic branding and a menu full of smoothies, drinks food and even bone broth, the cafe has turn into a vacation spot in its own proper — not just an add on to the store.

Visiting LA on a day journey from San Diego, digital creator Jasilynn Zamora spent about half-hour in the space, spending time taking pictures and videos of herself in entrance of one of the mirror-lined wall. She found the label on TikTok and made a level to go to the bodily store.

“I think it’s very unique,” Zamora said. “There’s not a lot of cafes like that have a store, so I kind of like how you can shop and get a coffee. I also like the aesthetic of it.”

Nearby in the courtyard, Nayara Rocio, a doctor specializing in longevity visiting Los Angeles from Brazil for a Kabbalah course, sought out the placement after seeing the model’s viral reputation on TikTok. Outside, Rocio was sipping a smoothie while taking selfies in a Sporty & Rich sweatshirt. (Rocio just so occurs to have around 250,000 Instagram followers.)

Over at Madhappy on Melrose, two Gen Z customers — Valery Renterieo and Manny Guerrero — have been hanging out inside with iced matchas and admitted the “vibe” was the only real cause they walked through the door, noting they most likely wouldn’t have if there wasn’t a cafe. For them, half of the appeal was merely strolling around holding the branded Madhappy cups.

Also on Melrose, New York fashion model Aime Leon Dore opened its first West Coast flagship in April, bringing its fashionable Cafe Leon Dore idea along for the experience as nicely.

Anine Bing also joined the development this summer season with a Leora Cafe pop-up at its Melrose store, serving 5 exclusive drinks designed particularly for the activation. The restricted run cafe added another layer to the model’s retail expertise, turning a buying go to into more of a curated lifestyle second made for social media.

While the idea will not be distinctive to LA, it might be significantly suited to town, where espresso retailers have long doubled as workplaces, assembly spots, and locations to see and be seen.
