It’s past midnight when I hurdle myself into the elevator certain for the a hundredth flooring of 30 Hudson Yards.

The music hasn’t even began but my ears are already popping as I’m led to David Bissette, aka Cloonee. The in-demand DJ is gearing up for the second act of his evening at The Edge. Just weeks in the past, he announced his debut album, “Are You Still You?”, and tonight he’s wrapping a five-hour set at his sold-out Brooklyn Army Terminal show before heading to the afterparty in the sky.

By any cheap normal, the 30-year-old ought to in all probability be asleep. But instead, after a fast Uber trip, which he calls his recovery, he’s back to work. This time, on a deck 1,100 ft above Manhattan. He pours himself his drink of selection, a tequila soda, and jokes, “I’m on a diet.”

We have a few minutes to chat before he’s shuttled onstage. Somehow, despite the five-hour set, the shortage of sleep and the fact that he’s about to do it all over again, he appears remarkably unfazed.

For Cloonee, this is just your average Saturday-night-into-Sunday-morning.

Below, you’ll discover particulars about his upcoming look at the 2026 Day Trip Festival as effectively as excerpts from an interview The Post performed with Cloonee.

What did Cloonee say to The Post in an exclusive interview?

“Playing daytime into nighttime is always really nice. You get to play two different styles of music, you get to bring people up and then bring them back down,” he explained of his earlier stop in Sunset Park, including that the huge manufacturing also helped set the temper. “It was beautiful.”

At The Edge, manufacturing feels beside the purpose. The view is sort of too fairly for a rave. Manhattan stretches out in every direction; angled partitions body the sweeping skyscrapers, including Chrysler and the Empire State Building. It’s a spectacular and barely vertigo-inducing backdrop for a rave.

“I’ve actually never come here before,” he tells me. “They throw raves anywhere, and everywhere. And this is one of those places that makes no sense at all, but also makes perfect sense. The view is incredible. I’m really looking forward to it.”

After 14 years in the industry, the producer has carved out a status for his sexier take on tech home: high-energy, punchy and often laced with a little Latin aptitude. It’s a sound that feels a world away from the West Midlands of England, where he grew up — his accent principally provides him away.

We dip into his artistic course of, too.

He tells me he writes from home and retains issues comparatively low-key. He jokes that other interviewers have told him to say “something cooler,” but the laid-back reply feels fairly on-brand.

For Cloonee, making music is a job he’s more than pleased to have.

He began releasing demos on SoundCloud in 2014, and by 2020, Chris Lake had introduced him across the pond to Los Angeles and signed him to his label. Today, he runs his own impartial file label — under the slogan of “Good Music For Bad People.”

But before the music profession took off, he inform me he truly studied journalism at the University of Sheffield. I jokingly ask if he’d ever swap careers. He laughs, seemingly unconvinced.

All of a sudden, it’s time to go on, and the frilly operation of getting him exterior is underway. The crowd elements. There’s scurrying, fog, people pointing in every direction. Somehow, he makes it through and the next factor I do know, he’s spinning behind the decks as if he’s been there all evening.

People crowd around the sales space, a mob of ladies press toward the entrance and the bass kicks in. Someone next to me yelps “Okay, John Summit!” — just like the star DJ coming to NYC later this 12 months, Cloonee has also earned a status for attracting loads of consideration onstage.

In the post-pandemic period, it’s change into abundantly clear that home music has entered the mainstream, DJ fandom and worship could be very a lot a factor and Cloonee is one of the scene’s favourite figures.

His set bounces from hit to hit. Everyone is out of breath. Hours really feel like minutes. Minutes really feel like seconds. My Cloonee takeaway: relaxed and soft-spoken in individual, racehorse vitality behind the decks.

The tracklist retains everybody guessing, with sudden drops and a tingly rhythm that makes you need to dance — even when you verify the time, see it’s past 2 a.m. and bear in mind the day has already began.

“Good Girls” is an unsurprising crowd-pleaser. The lead single from his upcoming album shortly hit No. 1 on Beatport and has since change into a pageant favourite, already hitting Tomorrowland, EDC and Coachella. His Prospa monitor, “Free Your Mind,” simmers and claps before his remix of CeeLo Green’s “Crazy” — the monitor he told me he was most excited to play tonight — slows issues down and brings up the heat.

Cloonee has a knack for weaving Hip-Hop into home without letting the kinds sound like they’re combating each other. For a second, it’s a acquainted vocal; then the bass drops and the whole room is pulsing again. He understands pacing, reads the room and is aware of when to push issues ahead and allow them to breathe.

At 1,100 ft above New York, it’s onerous to think about a better setting for this type of show. A few followers who got here straight from the Army Terminal, though, inform me that was fairly onerous to beat, too. That’s the factor about a Cloonee set: he creates an impressively intimate environment whether or not enjoying inside a sprawling industrial complicated or on a comparatively small deck perched above the clouds.

For anybody who genuinely loves home music, a Cloonee set is a must-see. A back-to-back Cloonee set is arguably even better — and after getting a glimpse behind the scenes, I can attest that wherever he performs next, you’ll definitely need to be in the room (or sky) where it occurs.
