Before the next spherical of New York Fashion Week will get underway, Harlem’s Fashion Row (HFR) is back, centering Black tradition, creativity, and our knack for wanting good and placing it on. Its annual Style Awards have turn into Fashion Week’s unofficial official kickoff, celebrating the names we love and introducing designers we need to know.
And yes, attendees always perceive the task.
HFR’s nineteenth Annual Fashion Show & Style Awards will happen September 8 at The Glasshouse in New York City. The invite-only event will ship superstar sightings, front-row seems to be, and runway moments while rooting for everyone Black.
Harlem’s Fashion Row NYFW: Erykah Badu Leads A Stacked Honoree List

Erykah Badu will obtain the Fashion Icon Award. For many years, the singer has handled getting dressed like an artwork type. Her towering hats, wealthy layers, outsized jewellery, and sculptural shapes have always adopted her own guidelines.
Wisdom Kaye will obtain the Virgil Abloh Award, introduced by LVMH. Brandon Blackwood will take home Designer of the Year.
Audrey Smaltz will obtain the Ann Lowe Maverick Award. Jahleel Weaver will earn Stylist of the Year, while Recho Omondi will obtain Editor of the Year.
The honorees embody attain of Black fashion affect. We design the garments, type the celebrities, doc the tradition and create photographs that the remaining of the industry research.
Harlem’s Fashion Row NYFW: Three Black Designers Will Take The Runway
HFR will also current new collections from three members of its Runway Ahead Designer Fellowship.
Atelier Ndigo by Waina Chancy will show its sculptural womenswear. Harlem-based Rey Jaiteh will current luxurious menswear and womenswear. Nigerian designer Chuks Collins will deliver African influences, sharp tailoring and sudden shapes to the runway.
The fellowship provides designers funding, government mentorship and business development help. One designer will obtain the $100,000 Runway Ahead Prize to help grow their model. Amid an unpredictable economic system, Black designers need more than applause and a crowded runway show. They need access, money and people keen to invest in their work.
This yr’s “Peace by Piece” theme celebrates the relationships behind HFR’s 19-year run. The night time could kick off Fashion Week and Month, but its general affect lasts far, far past this month.
