Let’s be trustworthy: City Section particular groups play has been unhealthy for years. Coaches desperately search campuses for kickers/punters and even long snappers. Narbonne misplaced the City Section championship sport in 2013 when three unhealthy punt snaps resulted in three safeties.
Coaches have began recruiting gamers of their college’s soccer group, and it’s working. Cleveland discovered Diego Mendez, and last week he was six for six on extra-point makes an attempt and made a 40-yard subject objective.
“Soccer player turned kicker,” coach Mario Guzman said.

Carson was lacking too many PATs last season, so coach William Lowe employed former Carson and Arkansas kicker Ish Ordonez to work with the kickers. Now there’s two soccer gamers on the group who know fútbol but are studying football. Sophomore Monico Flores-Segovia didn’t even know how many factors a group will get for a subject objective. The other kicker is Manny Padilla, who’s booming balls into the end zone.
It’s a good lesson for City football coaches: Be good to the soccer coach if you need a kicker.
