On a cloudless Friday evening in Bellflower, with no rain in the forecast, St. John Bosco needed to finally vanquish a nightmare from last season, when the top-seeded Braves misplaced to Orange Lutheran in the opening recreation of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs in the rain.

“It was still deep down somewhere,” St. John Bosco quarterback Koa Malau’ulu said.
