Burbank Hollywood Airport’s new billion-dollar…
They have reached a larger elevation.
Burbank is wanting a little more like Beverly Hills these days. The airport’s shiny new terminal opened Tuesday with a shock for the LA jet set: high-end Gucci purses on show just past security, close to Gate 7.

The luxurious items, retailing for anyplace from $1,500 to $4,000, sat behind glass as curious early-morning vacationers took in the sudden sight.
“I never thought I’d see Gucci in the Burbank Airport, you used to just hope for a decent cup of coffee. I’m not in the market for Gucci, but if I ever am it’s good to know it’s an option,” said Andy Orbeck, a lady who was flying to Bend, Oregon.

I used to be aboard one of the first flights out of the new billion-dollar terminal Tuesday morning, and I’ll admit I used to be anticipating the worst. Losing my outdated, but favourite, LA airport weighed on me.
Any Angeleno is aware of that despite its Nineteen Fifties odor — like grandma’s outdated carpet — the outdated terminal, which lived to 100, had a lot going for it. Close parking, two-door tarmac loading and unloading, and a no-hassle TSA expertise made getting in and out a breeze. It was a far cry from LAX.

Would the new terminal destroy all that? Would a shiny new building blow up Burbank’s standing as LA’s best-kept airport secret?
Thankfully, the reply is a laborious no.

I pulled into the new parking construction at 6:30 a.m. for an 8 a.m. boarding, discovered loads of areas at $49 a day and was at my gate by 6:50 a.m. Not unhealthy.
Security was a breeze, too. I made it through TSA PreCheck in less than 5 minutes, with loads of officers on hand and walk-through metallic detectors preserving issues transferring.

Inside, the terminal felt spacious, with none of the cramped hallways and low ceilings that outlined the outdated digs. It appears to be like like there will likely be loads of locations to grab a chew, too — ultimately.
I noticed a Poquito Mas, one thing called Spring Chicken, and a Boarder Grill. Unfortunately none of these eating places had been open yet, some still under construction, making the sprint for a breakfast burrito not possible.

The terminal also seems to be lounge-free for now, which means no VIP hideaway with complimentary food and drinks — one thing the outdated airport may have desperately used.
And although the airport options fancy digital arrival and departure screens, a lot of them didn’t appear to work.
Southwest Airlines ground crew spent most of the morning telling passengers that they had been at the fallacious gate for their flights to Phoenix, Oakland, and Las Vegas, despite the screens saying they had been at the fitting one.

“Sorry, they aren’t working right, please refer to the Southwest App,” one annoyed worker directed passengers.
My own Oakland flight was delayed after the crew confirmed up late, having hassle finding the airplane. At least airport greeters had been handing out free espresso.
And I may always browse Gucci baggage to kill time.
But as I went outdoors to board the jet and watched the airplane depart the runway, I regarded from my center seat over Universal Studios and Sherman Oaks and smiled.
The new Burbank Hollywood Airport had some opening-day hiccups, but the issues that made the outdated terminal great had been still there: simple access, fast security and a comparatively painless journey to the skies.
Looks like this little airport will keep delivering for years to come.
