Bill Maher Unleashes After Left’s Sweeping

Bill Maher is not celebrating the Democrat Party’s sweeping midterm victories without reservations. The liberal HBO host is warning that the get together’s growing socialist wing may take Democrats in a harmful direction, and he believes America’s faculties deserve some of the blame.

During Friday’s “Overtime” phase of “Real Time,” Maher argued that younger Americans are embracing socialism without understanding its historic failures.

“The reason why they don’t know that socialism didn’t work in the past, to this degree, or Communism, is because nobody taught them in school,” Maher said.

He called that failure “an indictment of our educational system,” suggesting youthful generations have been left without the historic perspective crucial to consider the financial systems they more and more help.

Maher’s feedback come as socialist Democrats are gaining affect within the Democrat Party, including some notable victories in Tuesday’s elections.

In Los Angeles, democratic socialist Nithya Raman defeated incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. Washington, D.C., elected Democratic Socialist Janeese Lewis George, while New York City is already ruled by Zohran Mamdani, who gained the mayoralty in 2025.

Socialists have successfully infiltrated and hijacked the get together through primaries and local elections, operating dishonestly on seemingly “dinner table” points like housing affordability. This is the modern-day model of “Bread, Land and Peace” that the Bolsheviks ran on in 1917, before they took over Russia and began liquidating hundreds of thousands of political enemies.

Maher, however, desires to meet radical leftists in the center, as if there’s a negotiation to be had with communists.

“We already have a lot of socialism and a lot of it is appropriate,” Maher said, citing Social Security and Medicare among authorities applications he helps.

But he distinguished those applications from what he characterised as the far left’s ambitions for dramatically increasing authorities control.

“These people want communism,” he warned.

Where has Maher been? I’ve only been saying this for 20 years. But it is good to see somebody finally use the “c-word” on the cable discuss show circuit.

Political commentator Coleman Hughes also questioned socialist financial insurance policies, pointing particularly to rent control measures that can discourage housing construction and worsen shortages.

And Americans do not have to revisit the Soviet Union to discover examples of the risks Maher is discussing. 

Venezuela’s financial collapse unfolded under socialist governments that expanded nationalization, price controls and state intervention. Combined with corruption, dependence on oil revenues and other pressures, those insurance policies contributed to a disaster that drove hundreds of thousands from the nation.

Cuba, meanwhile, continues to expertise extreme shortages and infrastructure failures under its centrally deliberate financial system, with a nationwide energy outage in March 2026 highlighting the nation’s ongoing disaster.

Maher believes average Democrats ought to acknowledge those dangers quite than give up the get together’s direction to its ideological left.

“Who has the guts to say this is the Democratic Party, you are doing a whole different thing?” he requested.
