U.S. President Donald Trump suggested Kyiv against putting Moscow on Tuesday.
Trump’s remarks come on the heels of his announcement about an arms deal with NATO to provide Kyiv with an offensive weapons system as it carries into its third 12 months of preventing with Moscow following Russia‘s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
“He shouldn’t goal Moscow,” Trump said of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reporters.
During the Monday announcement alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the U.S. president also threatened to impose “secondary” tariffs on those who purchase oil from Russia within 50 days if the Kremlin fails to reach an agreement with Kyiv.
The arms deal will provide Kyiv with a weapons system that can strike deep into Russia and comes after the president faced criticism following Washington’s halting of a weapons shipment to Kyiv, forcing Ukrainian officials to find a roundabout agreement with European allies.
The “main” announcement was a stunning U-turn on the U.S. president’s previous approach to the conflict, reflecting his growing frustrations while trying to mediate a ceasefire between the two warring nations.
