Another earthquake has rocked Afghanistan, leaving more than 800 useless and practically 3,000 injured. Villages are flattened, households buried under the rubble, survivors digging through the wreckage with their naked palms. It is tragic, heartbreaking, and predictable. Because if there may be one factor Afghanistan doesn’t have under Taliban rule, it’s the potential to reply to catastrophe.

Remember when the Taliban swaggered into Kabul in 2021, promising to usher in a new period of stability and independence? They told the world they didn’t need Western affect or American troops. Today, those same males with rifles are holding out their palms, begging for worldwide help. The very people who once blew up support convoys and murdered humanitarian employees now need the world to swoop in and clean up the rubble. Irony dies a thousand deaths in Afghanistan.

Now, don’t misunderstand me. The Afghan people, the males, girls, and kids crushed under collapsed mud houses, deserve compassion. They deserve support. They deserve hope. But the Taliban? They deserve none of it. They ran the West out, demanded sovereignty, and promised they might govern. Governing means more than handing out whippings in the city sq.. Governing means building roads, hospitals, and disaster response systems. The Taliban never cared about that. And today, their people are paying for it in blood.

Let us zoom out. Afghanistan was already in shambles. Millions hungry. Healthcare on life assist. The economic system strangled because, shock, the world doesn’t like funding a terror regime. Then nature struck, and now the Taliban’s lack of ability to present even basic companies is on full show. These are the males who claimed they’d restore Afghanistan’s honor. Yet in the face of tragedy, their whole authorities seems to be like a tent propped up in the wind, collapsing the second the storm hits.

Of course, the global neighborhood will reply. Aid teams, governments, and charities will rush in, not because the Taliban are worthy, but because human life is. That is the bitter irony. The world will again bail out the very people who hate the West, because mercy calls for we separate rulers from the ruled. The Taliban can sneer at America and Europe all they need, but when Afghan infants are pulled lifeless from the rubble, it’s Western drugs and Western generosity that will arrive first.

And possibly that is the level right here. The Taliban love to posture as self-sufficient warriors of God, but when the ground shakes and the mud clears, it’s not their prayers that save lives. It is the compassion of the free world. That is the distinction between tyranny and freedom. One destroys. The other builds. One guidelines with concern. The other responds with mercy.

So yes, the West will ship support. Because we still worth life, even in locations where life is reasonable under the rulers’ boot. But allow us to not idiot ourselves. This earthquake didn’t just topple houses. It uncovered, yet again, the utter vacancy of the Taliban’s guarantees. And no quantity of international support will repair that.
