Alaska Man Monday: Meeting Moose – CrimsonState | Political News
Check this out; sometimes, in Alaska, you’ve to watch out just going to the post workplace:
This was a cow and her yearling calf. I managed to skirt around them and do in the post workplace’s facet door, and around entrance, you possibly can view them from about six to ten ft’ distance from a place safely inside the foyer. It was neat – and that cow moose, effectively, I’m 6’1”, and her shoulder hump was about at the extent of the top of my head. Her calf was more or less the dimensions of a cow elk. These are big critters – and we’ll have more of that in this week’s video. Until then:
Now, down in Wasilla, one dumb criminal appears to be setting a new normal for dumb: Stealing stuff by renting it from a rental company, then attempting to keep it.
On 11/11/25 at roughly 1830 hours, the Alaska State Troopers Criminal Suppression Unit (CSU) contacted 38-year-old Tyler Smith at his residence in Big Lake to observe up on a number of open theft circumstances. CSU had acquired a report Tyler had rented some tools from a rental company in Willow and failed to return it for over a month. He did so with inadequate funds so they couldn’t charge him for the prolonged period of time.
Further investigation revealed Tyler had rented a number of other gadgets from rental firms in Big Lake and Anchorage, which he then pawned at a pawn store in Wasilla. Each of these gadgets have been rented in September and have been pawned virtually immediately following the rental. CSU recovered the gadgets and contacted Tyler to interview him about the thefts and attempt to recuperate the tools rented from Willow. It was revealed the tools was now in Soldotna, making rapid recovery inconceivable. Tyler was arrested for six counts of Theft in the Second Degree and two counts of Theft in the Third Degree. He was remanded at Mat-Su Pre-Trial and held without bail.
I’m not fairly sure how Mr. Smith thought he was going to get away with this. When you rent one thing, they’ve all your contact info. Pretty sure they ask for an ID, too. This is taking dumb crooking to a complete new stage of dumb crookery.
Alaska Man rating: 1.5 of 5 moose nuggets. Mr. Tyler will get a level and a half for making us level and snicker.

Next, we’ve an Anchorage resident who noticed one thing uncommon: A bull moose dropping both antlers at once.
Christie Ericson had just returned home when she noticed a moose across the road.
“I had just gotten home from a meeting and was pulling into the driveway and saw the moose,” Ericson said. She added that while she ceaselessly sees moose in her neighborhood, she hardly ever sees a bull with a full rack.
She stepped to the end of her driveway to take images and short video clips when the sudden occurred.
“I took like maybe four or five little videos, which none of them were very good. I was trying to get a good shot. And then all of a sudden, they (the antlers) just dropped,” Ericson said.
Both she and the moose have been startled.
What’s too unhealthy is that another person acquired to the antlers before Christie did.
After the moose moved on, Ericson checked checked her footage to affirm she had captured the split-second second. When she returned outdoors to look for the shed antlers, they have been already gone.
That occurs. People prize shed antlers; they may never keep on the ground too long. But even so, Christie acquired some great video, and that’s not nothing.
Alaska Man rating: 5 shed antlers.
