All Eyes Turn to Swalwells Bestie, Sen. Ruben

Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell’s (CA-14) fast descent from being a member of Congress and a top 2026 California gubernatorial candidate to being neither has been one thing else to watch play out in real time.

It went from allegations of inappropriate harassment to allegations of inappropriate assault, to allegations that he violated immigration and employment legal guidelines associated to his kids’s nanny in a matter of just a few days. DHS immediately started investigating the immigration law complaints, and the Manhattan DA’s workplace commenced an investigation into the inappropriate assault allegations. 

As we also reported, some GOP members of the House vowed to pursue Swalwell’s expulsion amid a not too long ago announced House Ethics Committee probe into the inappropriate misconduct claims. The embattled Democrat, after days of denials, revealed on Monday afternoon that he was resigning from Congress.

Amid the varied reviews about Swalwell has been rumblings about his bestie, Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), whom the disgraced soon-to-be-former Congressman once described as his “best friend in the world”:

Gallego, I ought to observe, was the chairman of Swalwell’s failed 2020 presidential marketing campaign. He also infamously filed for divorce in 2016 from his first spouse when she was 9 months pregnant, and at a time when he was still a member of the House of Representatives.

For those who is probably not conscious, when the inappropriate harassment allegations first surfaced early last week, Gallego’s first response appeared to be to run interference for Swalwell:

As the week went on, however, and the inappropriate assault allegations have been reported, Gallego started a shift in tone, speaking about “regrets,” about being “shocked,” and withdrawing his endorsement of Swalwell’s gubernatorial run:

I’ve read the San Francisco Chronicle’s reporting and I take it significantly.

What is described is indefensible. Women who come ahead with accounts like this deserve to be heard with respect, not questioned or dismissed.

I remorse having come to his protection on social media prior to figuring out all the data.  I’m equally as shocked and upset about what has transpired.  

I’m withdrawing my endorsement of Congressman Swalwell, efficient immediately.

On Monday afternoon, we noticed another shift from Gallego, stating he supported the House Ethics Committee investigation, and saying he believed Swalwell “should be expelled.” Also included in his assertion was a rigorously inserted denial of figuring out about any of the vile issues Swalwell has been accused of:

I assist the ethics committee’s investigation and consider Eric Swalwell is no longer match to be a Member of Congress. He needs to be expelled from Congress. 

I would like to be clear: I had no information of the allegations of assault, harassment, and predatory conduct against Eric Swalwell. 

I trusted somebody who I believed was a pal, but it’s now clear that he’s not the individual I believed I knew.

The ladies who have come ahead have shown braveness. They deserve to be believed, to be supported, and to see justice served.

Interestingly, Gallego’s tweet was posted about an hour and fifteen minutes after GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) referred to an alleged video of somebody who she described as a intercourse employee who presumably was with Swalwell, and asking for more info on who was filming it:

I’m being told there will likely be more disgusting stuff popping out on Swallwell in the next 24 hours. For the members of Congress who are involved about optics on expelling Swalwell, I believe after the data drops you’ll be pondering in any other case.

Is anybody shopping for Gallego’s assertion denying he knew something? Prof. Jonathan Turley sure is not:

With skepticism growing about Gallego’s “shock” and his denials of figuring out something, it is time for the mainstream media to kick into “just asking questions” mode with Ruben Gallego, as they might with Republicans. I haven’t got any religion in any way that this will occur, but that does not imply that the questions others have will go away. In fact, what it in all probability means is that the questions will get louder, as they need to.
