Amazing Race Season 37 will have surprises and | TV Shows

Amazing Race fans are going to be in for an unexpected new treat during Season 37, as the long-running show unveils a new “season of surprises” with new twists that will happen on every episode.

The season, which sees the largest and perhaps one of the more interesting casts to date, will still feature impressive host Phil Keoghan, and the ultimate prize of $1 million dollars if they are the first duo to cross the finish line after competing a series of tasks and challenges all around the world.

However, unlike previous seasons, where several legs contained traditional route info, detour and roadblock challenges, this one will also feature new twists every episode.

Fans will be able to look forward to familiar additional challenges from years past, which have not made an appearance for some time, as well as completely new things the show will throw in the cast’s way.

As it turns out, this is also exactly the way host Keoghan planned for it.

Speaking to Gold Derby over the summer, the show’s long-time host admitted that the surprises were being done to give the show a little new spice to keep fans engaged, but without changing too much from what they have loved about the show since its 2001 debut.

“The show is always a surprise show, right? I’m trying to think of a show that has more surprises than ours because literally every time our team rips a clue, it’s a surprise,” he said.

“[The twists] are like some little nugget to hook onto for the viewer so there’s something always a little different about each of the seasons. We don’t wanna obviously change what works because people love the way the show is, but if you can add a little extra topping, then that’s good. You change the topping on the pizza a wee bit, you know what I mean?”

He also revealed that while some twists may be familiar to fans and others are new, the show also tweaked some of the classic ones like the U-Turn, which didn’t feature in Season 36, but that are going to be “a little different” in order to keep both the racers and fans on their toes.

Following that leg, according to a press release, the teams then head to Osaka, Japan, where they will encounter the Intersection, last seen in Season 16. That twist, part of the road block, forces one partner to team up with a member of another team and complete their challenge together and work with one another until they are told differently.

The third leg of the race, also in Japan, will see the teams compete to try and win the Express Pass, which lets them skip all remaining challenges for a leg and proceed directly to the Pit Stop, a move that can aid a struggling team and help them avoid elimination by bypassing others, or that can help a team get a desired first-place finish.
