I think we have functioning courts. I think a constitutional crisis – we would clearly be in one if the rule of law crumbles. But that is not the place where we are.”

Weiss questioned Barrett about the diminishing public trust in the Supreme Court, a development that Barrett admitted issues her. “I would like Americans to trust the institution of the court,” she said, describing it as “an institution that does operate with integrity.
“I’m not saying that the court always will get it proper. … I do not assume the court is above criticism or that I’m above criticism or something like that. But I do assume Americans ought to trust that the court is attempting to get it proper.”
