After shortly changing into a cult favourite, the hit Showtime collection The Chi will formally end after its upcoming eighth season.

Since 2018, audiences have flocked to streamers to see the tales of those dwelling on the Southside of Chicago and past as they navigated the hazards, joys, highs and lows of the town. When the show premiered, the forged which included Jason Mitchell, Tiffany Boone, Alex Hibbert, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Barton Fitzpatrick and Sonja Sohn—all of whom are no longer on the show—was praised for their performances. The show’s handling of points affecting the Black neighborhood has also been applauded as it provided a layered depiction that often pushed past stereotypes.

Ahead of the show’s closely anticipated closing season, Waithe and the forged—which now consists of TV icon Kyla Pratt, singer Luke James and Jason Weaver—had a get together in New York City to say goodbye to the beloved collection.

In attendance had been Birgundi Baker and Jacob Lattimore, whose portrayals as Emmitt and Keisha have made them fan favorites, as effectively as Yolanda Ross, Michael V. Epps and Shamon Brown.

Throughout the show’s 8 seasons, a bevy of celebrities have made appearances and taken on recurring roles including Karrueche, LaLa Anthony, Kandi Burruss, Tabitha Brown, Cori Hardrict, Da Brat, Iman Shumpert, Lynn Whitfield and Girlfriends star Jill Marie Jones. Rapper Common, who also serves as govt producer on the collection, made an look in earlier seasons as did TV and movie veteran Leon.

The show’s success and energy has been fueled by its storylines and the expertise of the extraordinary forged with celebrities like Beyoncé naming it amongst their favorites. Waithe hopped into the feedback of the show’s Instagram web page to inform followers to “grab your tissues” forward of the ultimate season’s premiere. And anybody whose watched The Chi at any level during its legendary run is aware of that the show’s writers have no downside hitting you where it hurts.
