Antiques Roadshow expert raving mad as he gives | UK News
An Antiques Roadshow expert admitted “I’m raving mad” as he gave a staggering valuation.
Last weekend’s (August 24) episode of the hit BBC programme befell at Shuttleworth House in Bedfordshire, where local residents arrived to have their antiques and positive arts appraised by specialists.
During the instalment, expert Geoffrey Munn was introduced with a “beautiful” diamond necklace.
“I was given it by my grandma to wear on my wedding day. It was actually passed down from my father’s side and he was from Mumbai,” the visitor explained.
“It was very sentimental for me to wear it on the actual day because my father sadly passed away when I was nine years old, so he gave it to me to wear on my wedding day to remember him.”
“It’s a very beautiful, superbly articulated thing and very flattering, actually,” Geoffrey said.
The expert then revealed that he was “slightly thrown off” when he first seemed at the necklace as the standard of the diamonds have been “marvellous”.
He added: “When they’re marvellous like that, it makes my job quite difficult because I’m looking for flaws and fissures and this, that and the other to tell me that they are, in fact, diamonds. So, it took a little while to establish that they are.”
Geoffrey went on to share that the baguette diamonds have been set in white gold and have been individually pierced by hand.
“These are miraculous objects because they’re made by hand, but there doesn’t seem to be any obvious sign of human activity at all because the craftsmanship is so superb,” he said.
The expert went on to reveal that the Sixties necklace might fetch up to £25,000, leaving the viewers shocked.
“This is a very covetable object, a very desirable one. Everybody would want to wear this one. I’m going to go a little bit raving mad and tell you that it’s worth £25,000,” Geoffrey shared.
The speechless visitor replied: “Wow, shock! Amazing, but obviously the sentimental value is a lot more.”
She concluded: “My grandma definitely said that it was real. There’s so many diamonds on it, I must admit, I did question myself if it was real.
“You do miss your father when you are getting married and strolling down the aisle, so having that piece of him there was actually, actually particular.”
