An Antiques Roadshow specialist confessed, “My knees were shaking” after recognizing an extraordinary piece.
The BBC show visited Hill of Tarvit in Fife for Sunday’s broadcast, where expert Mark Hill examined an 18th-century microscope.
“When I saw this box coming down the queue, I was sitting down, but my knees started to shake, because I know what’s in this box,” he confessed.
Taking a nearer look, he marveled, “What a beauty.” The visitor disclosed that it was a household treasure, handed down to her because she believes she works in science now.
“It’s older than I thought it was; it was my grandparents’ and they left it to me,” she revealed.
“I have not,” she confessed, including. “I’ve been a big chicken, afraid to do any damage do it.
“But I do use a microscope at least once a month at work. Maybe I’ll give it a work.”
Providing a valuation, Mark revealed, “This is a bit of a lounge ornament, it is a cureo in your home, related to your profession. It’s also £1,200 to £1,800 [$1,400 to $2,000].”
“It’s more than I anticipated,” the visitor responded.
Antiques Roadshow airs Sundays at 8 pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
