A bitter battle over a large AI data center in the Bay Area has taken an ugly flip as a highly effective union claims its members have been subjected to vile racial taunts, including the N-word, over their help for the project.
The North Coast States Carpenters Union filed a formal criticism Tuesday to the town council of Pittsburg, calling on the physique to examine and better shield people from “racial abuse, threats and intimidation.”
“This went far beyond passionate disagreement about a development project,” said Jay Bradshaw, head of the North Coast States Carpenters Union. “Black and Latino working people were racially degraded, intimidated and told to leave a public meeting because they stood up and expressed a different point of view.”

Black carpenters heard the N-word and other hateful language, the union claimed. Latino carpenters have been accused of betraying their group, while other insults included a homophobic “f-word” and accusations that the carpenters have been half of the Ku Klux Klan.
A 76-acre data center campus dubbed the AVAIO Perseus Data Center has sparked a revolt among locals who say the ability will suck up assets, spew diesel exhaust and trigger a racket in the quiet group ought to or not it’s accredited.

“Project opponents have every right to organize, demonstrate and vigorously criticize the data center,” Bradshaw said. “But they do not have the right to use racial hatred and intimidation against union members.”
The Post reached out to the town for remark.

There doesn’t appear to be a singular, organized entity combating the data center but somewhat a gathering of tons of of local residents infuriated about the project close by.
Critics fear their lives may very well be upended by construction, noise and environmental impacts from the hulking project.
“Horrible. Horrible. I, gosh, should we move? You know, we’re really considering moving,” said Carmen Magallan, who lives across the road from the data center web site, according to CBS News.

The large project is slated to be constructed on a former municipal golf course that was closed in 2018, close to a residential development and faculties. The tech campus, from the company Avaio Digital, can have a 99 megawatt capability to start and has been hailed as a “major investment in our local economy” by metropolis leaders.
The opposition has even attracted national consideration, such as from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who sided with data center opponents.
