BBC shares first look at Adolescence stars new series | UK News

BBC viewers have declared they “can’t wait” after the broadcaster unveiled first look photos of forthcoming drama California Avenue.

Set during the Seventies, the programme follows a mom and little one on the run, and options a stellar solid including Adolescence actress Erin Doherty, The Crown star Helena Bonham Carter and Love Actually’s Bill Nighy.

The BBC posted a series of photos on Instagram displaying the stars in character, alongside other solid members including Tom Burke from Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, reviews the Mirror.

Kate Robbins, Paul Kaye and newcomer Cammie Liebreich also characteristic in the series, which unfolds in an remoted canal-side caravan park nestled deep within the English countryside.

“Its peace is irrevocably disrupted by the arrival of Lela and her 11-year-old child, Bee, both on the run, looking for refuge in this hidden world,” acknowledged a synopsis.

“It is here that a fractured family will come together, ghosts of the past will firmly be put to rest and an unexpected love is forged.”

The series – which the BBC said “is a story brimming with humour and love” – sees Bill and Helena painting Jerry and Eddie, the mother and father of Lela (Erin). They are ballroom champions of the Nineteen Thirties who grew to become wartime runaways and stay in hiding three a long time later.

Tom portrays fairground outcast Cooper, whose troubled historical past is set to erupt into California Avenue. Kate takes on the position of Priscilla, the “formidable force” who runs the caravan web site with her husband, web site supervisor and all-rounder Kevin (Paul).

Viewers said they have been “looking forward” to the series following the BBC’s release of its first glimpse, with some taking to social media to ask when it’s anticipated to broadcast.

California Avenue is set to air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
