BBC slammed as disgraceful World Cup remarks leave | UK News

The BBC sparked outrage with its coverage of the World Cup as followers raced to complain just minutes into the programme. Presenter Gabby Logan was joined by pundits César Azpilicueta, Ellen White and Wayne Rooney forward of Portugal’s conflict with Spain on Monday (July 6) night. The main subject of dialog was the current type of Cristiano Ronaldo, and whether or not he’s negatively impacting the workforce.

Former Manchester United footballer Rooney said: “I think he’s playing too many minutes. It’s the most difficult thing for any player to recognise that you’re maybe not at the top of your game. He’s 41. No one’s expecting him to be at the top of his game. I’m just feeling a frustration from other players and maybe that’s having an impact on other players.”

However, he was fast to argue that Ronaldo is “always a threat” in entrance of purpose, including that Portugal have the power to beat any workforce.

Logan remarked: “He is a conundrum for Roberto Martínez. Apparently the nation is divided as well as the squad being divided.”

They went on to analyse Ronaldo’s contact map against Croatia, with the presenter mentioning only one was in the penalty box, which was the penalty he took and scored.

Former skilled footballer White argued this is a “concern” from a workforce’s quantity 9, but believes one or two touches in the box is enough if you’re contributing or scoring objectives.

However, she described him as a “superstar” and acknowledged his achievements across his profession in soccer.

“I agree with Wayne, you’ve got to take yourself out of the equation and think, ‘What is best for the team? Do we want to get to the final?’ I think that’s the conundrum he’s having.”

The dialogue led to a number of viewers complaining about the coverage, with many claiming the BBC has a “vendetta” against Ronaldo.

Taking to X, one wrote: “BBC commentary is atrocious spent the last 30mins just saying how bad Ronaldo is, how about you actually analyse the teams and the players.”

Slamming the broadcaster, another said: “BBC are just doing a whole segment s****ing on Ronaldo…does it not get boring? Disgraceful.”

A 3rd posted: “Your coverage is embarrassing and simply a vendetta against Cristiano Ronaldo! I don’t know who the female panelist is but the amount of rubbish she talks about Ronaldo is pathetic. Also Rooney have some shame you played with him!! Embarrassing by the BBC!!”

A fourth fumed: “Can someone tell the idiots at BBC that Portugal is playing? And not just Ronaldo! Your campaign against him is a disgrace!”

Someone else requested: “What is this Cristiano Ronaldo hate on BBC?”

A sixth weighed in: ” The BBC World Cup coverage is just an embarrassment & a Vendetta against Cristiano Ronaldo. Azpilicueta has been respectful, Wayne Rooney talking rubbish & sorry I don’t know who the woman is but the constant rubbish she talks about Cristiano is pathetic.”
