BBC Strictly judge reveals major change presenter made | UK News
Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has disclosed that late star Sir Bruce Forsyth once issued a particular instruction relating to the show’s judging panel. Entertainment icon Bruce, who handed away in 2017 aged 89, beforehand co-presented the BBC ballroom competitors alongside Tess Daly, before he left and Claudia Winkleman stepped in.
And it seems he performed a position in figuring out where the judges are positioned on the Strictly panel, reviews Wales Online. While Anton, Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse joined the panel following Brucie’s period, Craig Revel Horwood was a judge from the outset, and the late performer determined he needed him at the other end of the desk.
Anton revealed on ITV’s This Morning: “A lot of people won’t know this, but on the very first series of Strictly Come Dancing he [Craig] was up the end where I sit. He was up Brucie’s end. Brucie went, ‘You have to get him away from me’ and they moved him down the other end.”
Presenter Ben Shephard jokingly questioned Anton whether or not it was because Craig – who was also on This Morning – was “mean”.
Craig, who is famend for his cutting remarks on the programme, clarified: “Brucie said ‘I don’t want him on the end because I’m going to go down the line and we can’t end on a negative’.”
“So I was shunted,” he acknowledged as Anton, Ben and his co-host Cat Deeley laughed.
“So literally Brucie moved Craig to where he is now,” Anton confirmed.
Craig has served on the judging panel since the inaugural collection of the beloved show in 2004, while Anton, who previously competed as one of the professionals on the programme, assumed his place at the desk in 2021.
Tess and Claudia have now departed from their presenting roles, with the new collection to be fronted by Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and former Strictly skilled dancer Johannes Radebe.
Three contestants have been confirmed for the forthcoming collection thus far — Australian singer Delta Goodrem, EastEnders star Lacey Turner and Love Island’s Dani Dyer, who was scheduled to take part last yr but was compelled to withdraw after sustaining an ankle injury.
