Music icon Billy Joel has admitted an affair he had with his best pal’s spouse made him feel “like a homewrecker” as he battles a mind disorder.

The star, 76, fell in love Elizabeth Weber, his bandmate Jon Small’s spouse, at the beginning of his profession.

In the new documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, the Piano Man hitmaker revealed the anguish he went through when he informed his pal he was in love with his spouse, and how it led to him making an attempt suicide twice and falling into a coma.

Joel was residing with the couple and their son, while Joel and Small have been in their early 20s and perfoming as half of a duo referred to as Attila.

Discussing the affair and Jon’s response when he discovered about it, Joel stated in the documenatry, “I was just in love with a woman, and I got punched in the nose, which I deserved.

“I felt very, very guilty about it. They had a youngster, you realize? I felt like a homewrecker.”

Joel fell in love with Weber, who he later married, because she wasn’t happy with her husband. Weber told in the documentary she and Small “weren’t a good match.”

She explained, “We have been very younger, and we didn’t actually know a lot of something. And I received more and more dissatisfied with the life I used to be residing, and then issues received difficult.”

She said she and Joel bonded after they began spending more and more time together, adding, “When you just discover somebody you’re comfy with … and can end your sentences and know what you’re considering without saying something, generally it’s a low construct.”

Small also opened up about the affair in the documenatry. He said that while Weber was important to him he thinks he was “not the man she hoped I’d be.”

He continued, “I saved seeing that Billy was not the identical man. Something was the matter, and Billy at some point got here up to me, turned a little trustworthy and stated to me, ‘I’m in love with your spouse.’ So, it was a very devastating factor for me because these have been mainly my two best mates.”

He continued, “He’s crying, and he’s telling me he feels so unhealthy, and he didn’t know what to do about it. How does he break his best pal’s coronary heart? But he stated she was so highly effective to him that it was value it to him to lose our friendship for it.”

Joel said Attila then split up and his revalation marked the end of his relationship “for a while.”

He told how Weber stopped contacting him, and he then began drinking a lot and attempted suicide twice.

He said, “I figured that’s it. I don’t need to reside anymore. I used to be just in a lot of ache. It was like why hang around? Tomorrow’s going to be just like in the present day, and in the present day sucks. So, I just thought I’d finish it all.”

After his second attempt at suicide, Small was the one who took Joel to hospital, where he was in a coma for days, and eventually forgave him.

Small said, “I finally received over it where it was like, ‘OK.’ He thought it was over for him, but, to me, he didn’t even begin residing yet.”

Joel and Weber coupled up about a year later after she’d listened to songs he’d written about her on a cassette tape of his music which he gave to her sister.

The pair married in September 1973 before separating in 1980 and divorced in 1982.

In May, Joel canceled all of his upcoming concerts after he was diagnosed with the brain disorder normal pressure hydrocephalus – a condition that leads to difficulty walking, problems with thinking and reasoning and loss of bladder control.
