NBC News studies that Grayson, who was initially charged with three counts of first-degree homicide, was convicted of the lesser charge after jurors deliberated for practically 11 hours. A first-degree homicide conviction may have meant up to life in prison. The second-degree homicide conviction may carry a sentence of anyplace from 4 to 20 years or, shamefully, parole with no prison time at all.

Grayson’s sentencing is set for Jan. 29, 2026.
