Brooks Koepka breaks silence on Patrick Reed also | Golf News

Brooks Koepka has described Patrick Reed’s alternative to mirror his resolution in quitting LIV Golf and chase a PGA Tour return as “wild” development.

Reed revealed on Wednesday that he had opted against signing a contemporary contract with LIV, but the 2018 Masters winner does not benefit from the same benefits as Koepka – he did not seize a major from 2022-25 – which means he must wait until August before turning into eligible to compete on the tour once more.

Reed intends to compete this season on the DP World Tour, aiming to secure a top 10 end in the Race To Dubai standings to guarantee full-member standing on the PGA Tour for 2027. The 35-year-old is well-positioned to obtain this following a commanding win at the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday.

Word of his impending return has been embraced by tour members, including five-time champion Harris English, who suggests the “dominoes are starting to fall” in the PGA Tour’s direction, with gamers realizing “the grass is not greener” on LIV.

Koepka found Reed’s announcement during a observe spherical at Torrey Pines on Wednesday, and he expressed his backing for Reed’s alternative after Thursday’s opening spherical.

“I was with [coach] Jeff Pierce on two, and he just kind of stopped in the fairway and asked me if I saw it. I’m like, ‘No, I’m out here on the golf course, my phone’s in the bag,’ so I didn’t see anything,” Koepka shared.

“Yeah, it’s wild. Whatever Patrick wants to do and to be the best golfer he can be, best for his family, I’m in full support of that. I think everybody’s different, got to make decisions for what’s best for their family. If he’s doing that, then I’m 100 percent behind him, whatever he needs to do.”

Reed revealed his resolution after the opening spherical of the Bahrain Championship on the DP World Tour on Thursday.

“I’m really excited,” he expressed. “With everything that’s kind of transpired over the past 48 hours, and really even since Sunday, it is something that my family and I felt was the best decision for me,” Reed acknowledged.

“I mean, I’ve really enjoyed all my time out there on LIV. It’s been a blast. I learned a lot when I was out there playing and hopefully my 4Aces and the team can go out and win everything. I mean, I’ll still be pulling for them and watching them.

“But I’m actually excited. Really excited to be out right here taking part in DP World Tour, like always, and actually excited to get back to the PGA Tour and start taking part in close to home.

“But I’m just really grateful and thankful to have the opportunity to play everywhere around the world like I have, and now we’re starting a new chapter, and I can’t wait for it to get really rolling.”
