Bryson DeChambeau fires back over no strategy | Golf News


Bryson DeChambeau delivered a strong efficiency with a 67 in the first spherical of the Open Championship before delivering a pointed retort to Sir Nick Faldo’s harsh remarks.

The LIV Golf participant declined to communicate with either broadcast rights holder or go through the combined zone following his first spherical, opting instead to return to the participant lounge. He did, however, interact with the R&A’s in-house media crew, where he delivered a clearly directed response to Faldo.

DeChambeau did not hesitate to counter the legendary golfer’s evaluation when reflecting on his efficiency. While circuitously questioned about Faldo’s remarks, he addressed them in his own method.

In an obvious rebuttal to the ‘strategy’ critique, DeChambeau acknowledged: “I think you’ve got to be a lot more strategic out on the golf course.

“I really feel like I did a actually good job today of being extremely strategic and centered tremendous onerous on putting it in the correct locations. DeChambeau competed in his first round with fellow LIV player Tyrrell Hatton and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, and he offered candid insights about the experience of playing alongside them.

“It was enjoyable enjoying with Scottie, seeing how good he strikes the ball,” he said. “That’s one thing — I’ve needed to play with him for a while now. Seeing how he struck the ball today was lovely.

“Makes me think, oh, man, I’ve got to work on my driving and 3-wood a little bit better because I hit it farther than him, but it sometimes doesn’t go straight.

“It’s a good gauge, proper? It tells me sort of where my recreation’s at. Also exhibits me where he is at. It’s good to see it in particular person.

“You always see it on TV, but it’s just a little different sometimes when you’re right there. That’s why it’s cool for people to be out here and see what Scottie and myself and Tyrrell can do, and everybody out here. It’s a great bunch of guys, and it was fun to play today.”
