Gov. Gavin Newsom’s sprawling Sacramento-area mansion is up for sale.
The 12,700-square-foot mansion in Fair Oaks — an unincorporated group in Sacramento County bordering the American River — has been listed for $7.5 million.
News of the itemizing, which is being dealt with by Sotheby’s International Realty, was first reported by the Sacramento Bee on Monday.
The itemizing describes the seven-bedroom home at 7640 Tobia Way as a “showcase of Santa Barbara-inspired architecture” that is “privately positioned along the bluffs on 8.2 acres.” It boasts of facilities including a resort-style pool, scorching tub, cold plunge, tennis court and 5,000-bottle wine cellar.
The Newsoms bought the mansion in December 2018 for $3.7 million shortly before Newsom took workplace as the fortieth governor of California in January 2019, The Times reported. The state’s first household had shortly ditched the historic governor’s mansion.
In 2024, the Newsoms purchased in Marin County, where they beforehand lived. They bought a $9.1-million property where they primarily live and their 4 youngsters attend faculty. Newsom and his spouse spend time in the Fair Oaks home while working at the state Capitol.
Newsom was raised in San Francisco and was town’s mayor from 2004 to 2011. During a 2012 interview, he famously described Sacramento as “just so dull.”
Izzy Gardon, a spokesperson for the governor’s workplace, said in a assertion Monday night that the “dull” remark is outdated and that Newsom had since told reporters that he loves Sacramento.
The Newsoms purchased the Marin home toward the end of his remaining time period to “provide continuity” for their youngsters’s schooling, Gardon said. “Selling the Sacramento home is the next step in that transition.”
Newsom has been eyeing a 2028 presidential run. In June, he accused the Department of Justice of launching a baseless investigation of him and his spouse at President Trump’s direction. In July, the Newsoms allowed reporters to view, but not copy, their tax returns from 2019 through their most current filings for 2024. The returns confirmed they’d earned at least $11 million since he took workplace.
According to The Times, their reported income was highest in 2021 when they quietly offered their Marin County home for $5.9 million.
