A $1 billion mega-project in Orange County is set to rework an previous army base into what may turn out to be one of the largest city parks in America — full with lakes, museums, procuring, an amphitheater and enough space to dwarf New York’s Central Park.

The park’s northern part will feature a sprawling botanical garden with trails, dry creeks, maze gardens, arboretums and themed areas. A Veterans Memorial park and Garden is also deliberate, preserving parts of the previous army tarmac as a 1,100-foot-long “Walk of Honor” devoted to Orange County veterans.

The project also contains a shiny retail hub.

Dubbed “The Canopy,” the 90,000-square-foot procuring and eating space will embody eating places, grocery shops and retail areas designed to be an “all-day destination.” Canadian Asian grocery giant T&T Supermarket is slated to open in the space in the winter, along with an In-N-Out Burger.

The metropolis estimates the park may finally appeal to more than 7.5 million people each 12 months.

“There’s a massive amount of earth-moving and building going on behind the scenes,” Irvine City Council member Mike Carroll told the Orange County Business Journal earlier this 12 months. 

The project first broke ground in June of 2023, and is predicted to be accomplished in 2029.
