Riptide is making its comeback to Channel 5 this week, 4 years since its initial broadcast.The psychological thriller chronicles newlyweds Alison and Sean, whose idyllic existence descends into turmoil when Sean doesn’t come back from a morning surf.
The four-part drama options EastEnders and Ackley Bridge actor Jo Joyner, Shameless and The Flats star Ciarán Griffiths, Peter O’Brien, recognized for Neighbours, The Unusual Suspects, and Outlander star David Berry. However, another spotlight of the programme is Riptide’s setting, owing to the breathtaking coastal surroundings and a seaside property the cast described as “phenomenal”.

“It’s like a wind tunnel and you will get 4 seasons in in the future which could be irritating to shoot. You’ll be coated in jackets with sizzling water bottles and umbrellas one minute, and the next minute the solar’s out and you are sweating! But, yeah, the placement was phenomenal.
“I’ve never been in a place like that ever before so that was really exciting. We’d done our rehearsals beforehand and when we got there it suddenly felt real. It definitely helped to get into character, being in this phenomenal house with that view of the ocean. It was pretty spectacular.”

In a lot of people’s minds you have acquired Sydney harbour, the Great Barrier Reef – these are issues often seen in Australian movies – but Melbourne has its own stunning landscapes that I do not actually suppose people have actually come to recognize exist in Australia.
“It’s cold, it’s moody, it’s misty, it’s raining. And it’s also sometimes bright and beautiful, and it has so many different pockets of natural beauty that were unique to me, and will be unique to audiences as they can fall in love with Australia in a completely different way than they’ve come to imagine it.”
Riptide will repeat on Channel 5 on Monday, June 29 at 9pm.
