The recreation will happen July 31 at 5 p.m. PDT to mark the start of the NFL preseason. The Chargers may even honor former tight finish Antonio Gates, who was chosen for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in February.
Gates, the NFL’s all-time chief in landing catches for a tight finish and the Chargers’ franchise chief in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, will enter the Hall of Fame with Eric Allen, Jared Allen and Sterling Sharpe in the smallest class in 20 years. The Class of 2025 will probably be enshrined on Aug. 2.
The Chargers haven’t participated in the Hall of Fame recreation since 1994, after they misplaced to the Atlanta Falcons.
After their three preseason video games, the Chargers will start the common season on Sept. 5 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in simply the second NFL regular-season recreation to be hosted in South America. The full schedule will probably be launched in May.
