Charley Hull gives update after injuring herself | Golf News

Englishwoman Charley Hull is not going to compete at this weekend’s PIF London Championship after sustaining a fall in a car park and listening to her ankle “pop.”

The expert golfer had been eagerly anticipating the possibility to return to home turf following last week’s tied-second efficiency at the Women’s Open in Wales, but circumstances shortly deteriorated on Wednesday when a car park mishap left her involved about a potential ankle fracture.

The 29-year-old, who claimed Rory McIlroy’s marriage has “influenced” her outlook on relationships earlier this yr, was strolling from the locker room to the follow facility at the Centurion Club when she tripped over a curb in the car park.

After being left writhing in pain on the ground and requiring her boyfriend’s help to get back on her toes, Hull obtained an MRI scan on Thursday, which revealed the entire scope of her injury.

Shortly afterward on Instagram, Hull announced her withdrawal from the PIF London Championship, informing her followers: “Gutted to say I’ve had to withdraw from the PIF London Championship this week.

“Picked up some ankle ligament harm after a (non-serious) accident off the course. Nothing major, but the docs say I’ve obtained to relaxation or I’ll make it worse. Absolutely gutted not to be taking part in at home, particularly at an event like this.

“It means so much to me, and I’m really sorry to the fans coming out and to my sponsors, especially Golf Saudi. Hopefully I’ll still get to meet some of you over the weekend. Appreciate all the support. I’ll be back soon.”

Earlier in the week, Hull had shared her pleasure about getting back on the greens with her coach, saying she had “a skip in my step” at the time of the accident.

“I was buzzing yesterday coming out of physio after getting my back tape on,” she told reporters at the Centurion Club. “I booked a four or five-hour practice session with my coach last Wednesday, which is nice and quiet and I love practicing.

“I used to be actually excited all week. Coming out of the locker room, I had a skip in my step because I really like working towards. But then I fell over a curb in the car park and was mendacity on the ground shouting for my boyfriend to come get me.

“The security guard was watching me and I heard my ankle pop. I thought I broke it. Someone picked me up and put me in the car. I went down so quickly, I nearly fainted. I was not sure if I was overreacting. I started moving my ankle and it’s nowhere near as bad as I thought.”

This ankle injury is just the latest in a sequence of fitness setbacks for Hull. Last month, she withdrew from the Evian Championship after collapsing twice on the course due to a virus.

The incident occurred just weeks after Hull sustained a back injury at the Irish Women’s Open while eradicating a box from her vehicle. Now, another “clumsy” mishap has denied her the chance to take part in this weekend’s competitors in London.
