Chick-fil-A has quietly modified its waffle fries recipe – eradicating an ingredient that some pissed off diners said made the potato snack not “appetizing.”
The restaurant chain, which launched waffle fries to its menu in 1985, confronted staunch backlash after including pea starch to its recipe in late 2024.
Bosses said the ingredient made waffle fries keep crispier for longer, but it proved to be a divisive addition.

Chick-fil-A heeded the fan fury and has confirmed that pea starch in waffle fries is no more, as reported by People. The restaurant’s web site also reveals that the pea starch from the fries’ ingredients listing.
The transfer has been welcomed by scores of diners – particularly those who endure from allergic reactions.
“Thanks Chick-fil-A for taking pea starch out of your fries,” one happy X consumer said.
“My son with food allergies can eat them again!”
“THEY REMOVED THE PEA STARCH!! HALLELUJAH!!” another wrote on Facebook.
“I’m gonna miss that pea starch. Said no one,” a third diner quipped as they welcomed the recipe change.

Diners said the fries style better now that pea starch is no more.
Some Chick-fil-A lovers said they may inform pea starch has been eliminated from the recipe as their fries are “soggy.”
Scores of diners had been lobbying restaurant chiefs to make a change.
One X consumer requested if there was an online petition after describing pea starch as “not appetizing.”
“hostility the new fries!! Please change them back,” a diner said, commenting on a December 2024 Instagram post.
“Your new fries are terrible. I can’t even eat them anymore and they were my favorite thing. Please go back,” another said at the time.
