CNN issues blow to Trump as hes branded cruel | TV Shows

CNN delivered a scathing critique of President Donald Trump’s handling of the riots that erupted in Los Angeles over the weekend.

During an interview with CNN correspondent Kyung Lah, California Democrat Representative Maxine Waters described Trump as a “cruel, dishonorable human being” in response to his decision to deploy the National Guard.

Waters spoke with Lah after trying to visit David Huerta, the President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), who was detained during the weekend’s protests.

She voiced her astonishment at the intensity the of weapons and equipment possessed by the troops. The reporter showcased images of the National Guardsmen stationed in LA, remarking on air, “And then I want you to take a look at what these Guardsmen are carrying.

“You can see these large sticks. We saw them about 15 minutes ago, pull them out and take a more aggressive posture, as if to be prepared to push back the crowd.”

“She tried to get inside to talk to the president of SEIU, he was detained. She could not get in. The door indeed was slammed in her face. And then here’s what she said about the militarization she’s seeing here in downtown Los Angeles,” she continued.

Discussing the weaponry displayed in the footage, Waters remarked, “I don’t know why we have guns. What are those guns for? Are they to shoot protesters? I mean, there’s no reason to be here with the National Guard.”

“The President of the United States is a cruel, dishonorable human being who would just as soon they shoot somebody down. But I don’t want that to happen. I do not want – I want the elected officials to do everything that we can to dissuade them,” she added.

Following the interview, the CNN reporter wrapped up, “Here’s the concern. It’s the cauldron that has been created today by the deployment of the National Guard, by how people are feeling about these ICE arrests that occurred on Friday, what that clash could mean today here on the streets of Los Angeles.”

The Guard was deployed with the specific task of safeguarding federal buildings, including the downtown detention center, where the presence of protesters was notably high.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell admitted his force was “overwhelmed” by the continued demonstration – highlighting that within these groups were habitual troublemakers who target protests to incite chaos.

Throughout the weekend of upheaval, numerous arrests took place. Among those detained included an individual who lobbed a Molotov cocktail at police on Sunday and another who drove a motorcycle through a line of officers, reports The Mirror US.

President Trump addressed the situation on Truth Social, directly telling McDonnell to apprehend protesters wearing face masks, sharply remarking, “Looking really bad in L.A. BRING IN THE TROOPS!!!”

Meanwhile, California‘s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom demanded Trump rescind the Guard’s stationing.

The sentiment was echoed by Mayor Karen Bass during a press conference, emphasizing, “What we’re seeing in Los Angeles is chaos that is provoked by the administration. This is about another agenda, this isn’t about public safety.”

However, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson pushed back, asserting, “It’s a bald-faced lie for Newsom to claim there was no problem in Los Angeles before President Trump got involved.”

Echoing this, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had previously stated that deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen was Trump’s strategy “to address the lawlessness that has been allowed to fester.”
