Coldplay fanatics are only just uncovering the actual story behind their favourite band’s moniker after a viral TikTok video from one of their reveals noticed Astronomer CEO Andy Byron having a potential affair with a co-worker.

A latest dialogue among devotees of Chris Martin‘s outfit has left them pondering the roots of the title, igniting a wave of hypothesis.

One supporter turned to Reddit with the query: “I’ve always wondered what the name Coldplay means. What is your interpretation of their name? Or are you wishing they stuck with Starfish?”

Prior to dropping their breakthrough file, Parachutes, the group went by Starfish before adopting the Coldplay identification. According to one contributor, the title seems to mix “cold” and “play” collectively.

Supporters are now exploring connections between their former alias and the band’s current identification.

A principle shared on the r/Coldplay discussion board explains: “I guess I’ll start, to me the name Coldplay is a compound word: cold and play. Cold is when your heartbroken, hopeless, depressed, lonely, etc. Play is a reminder that this life is just a game really.

“Everything in our lives is momentary, and we must always do our best to have enjoyable! Help others who need love and the universe will return it to you when you need it.”

Another contributor, who delved into the group’s official story, provided a comparable clarification. They shared: “I learn their biography, and I noticed this was initially the title of a poetry ebook of a pupil of the UCL (The college where the guys met): Child’s reflection, Cold Play.

“This name was initially taken by Tim Crompton for his band, but he wasn’t convinced at all, Chris asked if he could use this name and Tim accepted, because he wasn’t convinced at all. It hasn’t a true meaning. Guy also said that he still doesn’t like the name ‘Coldplay’, but it would be too late for changing it,” they completed.

A 3rd person has even uncovered the significance behind their former moniker, Starfish. They defined: “In an alternate reality maybe Coldplay kept the name starfish. In that case the name starfish reminds me how starfish can regrow their limbs after being cutoff.

“Helps me bear in mind to all the time strive my best and not fear about the end result. Everything is momentary and life can all the time get fixed. Persistence!”

The Coldplay documentary, A Head Full of Dreams, revealed the group had adopted the name “Coldplay” simply because it “sounded cool.”

One supporter noted: “They particularly said that they took the title (from their good friend’s band who did not need the title anymore) because it sounded cool and I’m fairly sure that was the identical documentary where Chris stated he would not even know what it means.”

Another chimed in: “I’m not fully sure it was meant to imply something. But that would not stop it meaning one thing to you.”

Astronomer and Byron haven’t made coments about the viral second, which had fans reflecting on the meaning of Coldplay’s title.
