David Letterman waves off Stephen Colbert by | TV Shows

David Letterman shared his frustration at Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show being canceled as he admitted being “p—– off” by the news.

Letterman created The Late Show and acted as the host for 22 years, and appeared as a visitor with Colbert on Thursday, May 14. As the pair sat down for a chat he told Colbert, “I have every right to be pissed off, so I’ll just be pissed off here a little bit.”

He then explained his stance further adding, “Because this theater, you folks, wouldn’t be in this theater if it weren’t for me. And Stephen wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for me. We rebuilt this theater, and then Stephen came in, and, look at this, it’s like the Bellagio. You can take a man’s show, you can’t take a man’s voice.”

Letterman also joked as he asked Colbert if it was the last show, quipping, “I was told it was the last show.” Colbert replied, “It is the last show of this week. Next week is the last show.”

Letterman then suggested he should return for the final episode, as he glanced over the furniture on set and called it “fantastic.” Letterman said, “Yeah, this is nice. Would be a shame if something happened to it.”

He then had a team descend and remove all of the furniture, Letterman and Colbert then had nowhere to sit so made their way into the audience to get chatted to some members of the crowd.

Colbert and Letterman were then seen on the roof dicussing “wanton destruction of CBS property,”and throwing items onto the network’s logo on the sidewalk below. Letterman closed out his interview with a message for CBS, saying, “Good night and good luck, motherf——.”

The final episode of The Late Show will air on May 21, after CBS announced last summer it would be ending. After the cancellation Letterman slammed his former employer calling them “lying weasels” in a May interview with The New York Times.

He said, “TV may be not the money machine it once was. On the other hand, what about the humanity for Stephen and the humanity of people who love him and the humanity for people who still enjoyed that 11:30 respite?

“He was dumped because the people selling the network to Skydance said, ‘Oh no, there’s not going to be any trouble with that guy. We’re going to take care of the show. We’re just going to throw that into the deal. When will the ink on the check dry?’ I’m just going to go on record as saying: They’re lying … They’re lying weasels.”
