Friday’s version of ABC World News Tonight left viewers visibly moved. David Muir was anchoring the long-running ABC broadcast forward of his common weekend break. According to California State Parks, James was surfing at Big River Beach within Mendocino Headlands State Park shortly after 5 pm on Wednesday, March 18, when the incident took place.
Speaking to ABC News, the 39-year-old explained he was squeezing in a quick surf session before collecting his nine month old from day care. “I might see the shark’s head sort of above the water,” he remembered. “I believed of my spouse and my child and I used to be just like, I can’t die. I am unable to die proper now.”
Fortunately, James succeeded in escaping and remained on his surfboard, paddling back to shore, where three off responsibility lifeguards rushed to his assist.
The father of one suffered accidents to both legs and was transported by ambulance to Adventist Hospital in Fort Bragg, where his spouse Chloe serves as an emergency room nurse.
