The eight European nations affected by President Trump’s latest spherical of tariffs launched a scathing joint assertion on Sunday, standing in solidarity with Greenland as tensions with the U.S. increase.

In a assertion, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom asserted their loyalty to NATO and to Greenland as President Trump continues issuing threats against the Arctic island.

It also comes as nations despatched troops to the island to participate in Danish army workouts.

“We stand in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland,” the assertion read. “Building on the process begun last week, we stand ready to engage in a dialogue based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity that we stand firmly behind.”

“Tariff threats undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral,” the assertion added. “We will continue to stand united and coordinated in our response. We are committed to upholding our sovereignty.”

The joint assertion comes a day after President Trump announced on Truth Social that the eight nations shall be hit with 10% tariffs on February 1, which can increase to 25% on June 1, until the deal with Greenland is reached.

“We have subsidized Denmark, and all of the Countries of the European Union, and others, for many years by not charging them Tariffs, or any other forms of remuneration. Now, after Centuries, it is time for Denmark to give back — World Peace is at stake! China and Russia want Greenland, and there is not a thing that Denmark can do about it.” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday morning.

The Republican president has insisted for months that the U.S. ought to control Greenland, a semiautonomous territory of NATO ally Denmark, and said earlier this week that something less than the Arctic island being in U.S. arms can be “unacceptable.” Interestingly, during an unrelated event at the White House on Friday about rural health care, he recounted threatening European allies with tariffs on prescribed drugs.

“I may do that for Greenland, too,” Trump said, before his announcement Saturday about his focused tariffs. “I may put a tariff on countries if they don’t go along with Greenland, because we need Greenland for national security. So I may do that.”

The latest spherical of tariffs comes after authorities from Denmark and Greenland met at the White House with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance to talk about the continued battle. The encounter did not appear to resolve big variations, with Danish authorities revealing that the events had a “fundamental disagreement” over the future of the Arctic island.

Following the unsuccessful assembly, a number of NATO nations, including France and Denmark, deployed troops to the Arctic Island. The troop actions reportedly have been meant to ship a message to the Trump administration that European nations are united in defending the intergovernmental army alliance.

As per Greenlandic authorities, the nation has made it clear that it has no curiosity in turning into half of the U.S.

At a joint press convention with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen acknowledged that his nation will prioritize NATO and the European Union over the U.S.

“If we have to choose between the United States and Denmark, we choose Denmark,” Nielsen said. “We choose NATO, we choose the Kingdom of Denmark, we choose the EU.”

Nielsen added that his nation isn’t for sale, as Trump has repeatedly recommended.

“One thing must be clear to everyone: Greenland does not want to be owned by the U.S.,” the Greenland prime minister said. “Greenland does not want to be governed by the U.S., Greenland does not want to be part of the U.S.”

“We choose the Greenland we know today, which is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark.”
