A TSA agent shared that she is close to being evicted, as hundreds of employees are working without pay amid the partial authorities shutdown.
Kimberley Fondren spoke about her plight on GWN This Morning, revealing that if she does not get a paycheck soon, she dangers being evicted from her home. “April 1 is the due date,” she said. “They give us until the fifth to make the payment without incurring late fees, but after 15 days of non-payment, the eviction process can start.”
This is the second time that Fondren has confronted a potential eviction. During the first authorities shutdown in President Donald Trump‘s second time period in October of last 12 months, she and hundreds of other TSA brokers went without pay. “We went months without a paycheck,” she said.
Fondren explained that employees got letters to clarify to collectors, and while she was met with understanding about the shutdown, she was told that she needed to discover methods to pay her rent.
Fearing she would lose her housing, Fondren had to cut a number of bills to keep afloat. Both of Fondren’s daughter, one in faculty and the other a high faculty senior, took on jobs to help out with prices.

“And I took up Ubering and Lyfting to try and supplement my income because things were just piling up,” the mom said. “So, I was working all night at the airport and then doing Uber and Lyft in the morning before I started another shift.”
The household also cut out web, streaming providers, and their telephone payments to focus on rent and groceries.
Fondren told GWN it felt as if she was being held hostage. “That’s exactly what it’s like because we show up everyday and work,” she said. “We have a very serious job to protect the American people.”

Despite not being paid, Fondren said it was important to show up to work, which is why she said it felt like a hostage state of affairs. “There was no option, no choice.”
The mom is just one of hundreds of TSA employees who are either working without pay, have called out, or give up their jobs altogether after Congress failed to agree on funding for the Department of Homeland Security. President Trump is now trying to unilaterally fund the TSA without Congressional Approval.
This means some employees may see their paychecks, but the main points stay unclear. “I’m thankful that we are finally going to get what we are owed,” Fondren said said about the president’s govt order.
“At the end of the day, this is a very important job … it’s a career, really. And that’s what everyone wants, is a stable career,” she said.
