The Dodgers’ injury woes grew Wednesday when first baseman Freddie Freeman joined Shohei Ohtani on the sidelines with a proper knee issue.
The Dodgers entered Wednesday’s recreation with the Cincinnati Reds with a magic quantity of seven to clinch their thirteenth National League West title in 14 seasons.
Ohtani, who leads the Dodgers in home runs (30) and RBIs (80), has just 9 at-bats this month, the last 4 coming Monday when he apparently aggravated one thing in his proper arm. Dodgers supervisor Dave Roberts had hoped Ohtani might play Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds, but that plan was scrapped and there may be no date for his return to the lineup.

Ohtani didn’t communicate to reporters.
Now the Dodgers are without Freeman, the staff’s main hitter with a .297 average. Roberts said that by taking Wednesday off forward of Thursday’s journey day, Freeman could be accessible this weekend in Miami.
“The right knee has been bothering him, and so just on the heels of an off day tomorrow, we felt it was best to just give him [the day off] and then see how he is on Friday,” he said.
Roberts said there may be a likelihood Ohtani might go on the injury record, but Freeman isn’t a candidate for that just yet. The Dodgers are already without middle fielder Andy Pages and backup catcher Dalton Rushing. Right-hander Roki Sasaki, who went on the IL last month with a blister on the center finger of his proper hand, threw a simulated recreation Wednesday afternoon and might return shortly.
“The pitching [coaches] said it was really good and they’re encouraged,” Roberts said of Sasaki’s session.
