DOJ Shares New Details in Arrest of Transgender

Back in February, there was a mass taking pictures in British Columbia, Canada, in which the male shooter, 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, killed eight people – two at his home (his mom and younger stepbrother), 5 kids and an instructional assistant at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School – before turning the gun on himself amid a shootout with police.

Over two dozen more had been injured.

We discovered soon after that Van Rootselaar, who had beforehand attended the varsity before dropping out, had been sporting a gown when the killings had been dedicated, had “transitioned to female,” and listed “she/her” pronouns in his social media profiles.

In an update to this story, the DOJ announced on Tuesday that they’d arrested a suspect in connection to this case: a man named James Cody Bryant, who is 30 years outdated and resides in Washington state. Mr. Bryant is being charged with “conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country.” What else did we study? Bryant also identifies as feminine. Here are some of the other particulars launched by the DOJ :

Shortly after the taking pictures, law enforcement discovered Van Rootselaar had been in frequent communication with somebody via the platform Discord. That particular person was recognized as Bryant. According to the prison criticism, Bryant and Van Rootselaar started speaking over Discord no later than August 2025, about Van Rootselaar’s plan to kill a number of people in a taking pictures in Canada. At varied instances main up to the assault, Bryant assured Van Rootselaar that Bryant wouldn’t flip her in to law enforcement and could be there to deal with the live streaming. In varied conversations between August and the February taking pictures, Bryant tried to discuss Van Rootselaar out of doing the assault. But finally, Bryant didn’t contact law enforcement and agreed to deal with the live streaming just minutes before the assault. Even after Van Rootselaar had killed two members of the family, there was time to intervene before the varsity taking pictures. Van Rootselaar couldn’t get the household car began to head to the varsity. Bryant gave advice about how to get the engine to flip over, permitting the shooter to put the varsity taking pictures plan in movement.
