Donald Trump blows up on lunatic GOP senator | Political News
President Donald Trump roared at Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican of Louisiana, calling him a ‘lunatic’ during a heated exchange in entrance of the Senate GOP convention.
Trump and Cassidy received into such a heated and rowdy confrontation that the senator from Louisiana had to be pulled back into his seat by another lawmaker. According to a particular person acquainted with the personal assembly who spoke with Fox5Vegas, Trump repeatedly instructed Cassidy to sit down. The president referred to the senator as a “lunatic.”
The spectacle started when Trump voiced his annoyance at the Senate’s approval of a struggle powers decision on Tuesday that ordered him to take away American forces from Iranian conflicts. This was a strong rebuke to the president.
Cassidy later described his heated exchange with the president, saying that Trump requested “why would anybody vote for the war powers” laws.
“I stood and said, ‘Is that a rhetorical question or would you like to really know?’” Cassidy said.
“I stood and said, ‘You have not told the American people what’s going on. It was supposed to last four weeks, it’s lasted four months. Our original objectives have not been achieved and I want to know what’s going on,’” Cassidy said, recounting the heated back-and-forth.
Enraged by Cassidy’s disobedience in entrance of the entire Senate GOP convention, Trump started ranting at the senator. Cassidy responded by roaring in a tone that matched the president’s rage.
“He did not particularly care for my comments, raised his voice. I lost my temper, that’s not appropriate – it’s the Irish in me,” Cassidy said. “I matched his tone and his volume and it went back and forth.” Then, according to Cassidy, Trump turned personal and insulted him for dropping the first.
Cassidy said he sat down at the senator’s request to “de-escalate.”
The Republican from Louisiana, however, said he’s not sorry for disagreeing with Trump since he argued that “the Senate needs to know” and “the American people need to know” more about the state of affairs around Iran.
In violation of the memorandum of understanding his administration struck with Iran, Trump once again threatened to destroy Iran if it didn’t control its proxies in Southern Lebanon on Sunday.
“It does not appear … that the course of this is going the way we were told. So I make no apologies for standing up to the president, trying to demand that more information be shared with the Senate and more information be shared with the American people,” Cassidy said.
