Donald Trump did not mince phrases about his views on the PGA Tour and Jay Monahan earlier than internet hosting the commissioner and prime golfers on the White House.

On Thursday, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, serving as participant administrators, joined Monahan within the Oval Office to speak with Trump about uniting the world of skilled golf. After a earlier assembly with Trump earlier within the month, Monahan was hopeful that discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF)—the financial muscle behind LIV Golf—have been drawing to a close.

During a Black History Month occasion, Trump praised Woods and Scott for his or her achievements in and out of golf.

“Tiger Woods, he’s an incredible athlete, an incredible guy. Thank you for being with us today, Tiger. He got the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which he proudly wears today,” Trump mentioned. “And also Adam [Scott], thank you very much. Adam, as Tiger will tell you, is one of the greatest players of all time. One of the great modern players. He has 32 wins worldwide and winning the Masters also. He’s also something very special and a great golfer.”

Trump’s acknowledgment of Monahan was notably more succinct: “Jay, thank you very much. Appreciate it very much.” The noticeably transient remark raised questions on Trump’s present relationship with Monahan.

In July 2022, Trump seemingly drew Monahan’s ire by publicly encouraging golfers to depart the PGA Tour.

“All of those golfers that remain ‘loyal’ to the very disloyal PGA, in all of its different forms, will pay a big price when the inevitable MERGER with LIV comes, and you get nothing but a big ‘thank you’ from PGA officials who are making Millions of Dollars a year,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “If you don’t take the money now, you will get nothing after the merger takes place, and only say how smart the original signees were.”

Despite Trump’s previous feedback, Monahan claimed that the 78-year-old helped facilitate the eventual decision between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, describing one of his latest White House visits as “very productive.

“I feel you all have been round him enough to know how passionate he’s concerning the recreation of golf,” Monahan said of Trump. For him to respond to our request to sit down and talk about how we achieve what he stated publicly as a goal, which is the game of golf operating under one tour with all the top players playing on that one tour, was a great opportunity. We had a really productive conversation.”

Speaking about Trump’s involvement within the negotiations, Monahan acknowledged: “Number one, you look at his passion for the game, his knowledge and understanding of the game, he’s very familiar with the PGA TOUR, he’s very familiar with the team at the Public Investment Fund. Like us, he has a very clear picture of what should happen and he wants to help. The game means that much to him. And he’s the ultimate dealmaker, so having him in the mix is a great thing for the game.”
