Emmerdale fans fume ‘that didn’t last long’ as soap | UK News
Emmerdale viewers have been left outraged as the beloved soap faces yet another scheduling disruption. Earlier this 12 months, ITV unveiled its new “power hour” soap schedule, with Coronation Street and Emmerdale shifting to a revised broadcasting format. From Monday to Friday, 30-minute Emmerdale episodes air at 8pm, adopted by 30-minute Coronation Street episodes at 8.30pm. Both are also obtainable to stream from 7am on ITVX.
However, on Friday (August 7) both soaps have been bumped from their standard slot. The scheduling change is due to ITV broadcasting live coverage of the EFL Carabao Cup Live between Middlesbrough v Wrexham. The soaps return to screens on Sunday (August 9), with Coronation Street airing an hour earlier than standard at 7.30pm, with Emmerdale following go well with at 7.00pm, experiences the Daily Star.
Reacting to the disruption, one viewer fumed on Facebook: “Thought things would go back to normal after the World Cup ended? Unfortunately there’s no Emmerdale or Coronation Street this Friday as the Carabao Cup airs on ITV1.” Another chimed in: “Oh for god’s sake it’s a joke.”
A 3rd then wrote: “That didn’t last long being football free did it.” Echoing their frustration, a additional viewer declared: “Football should have its own channel ! ! ! !” while a fifth added: “Oh my goodness not again, I thought it was all over.”
Speaking beforehand about the new “power hour” of soaps, Kevin Lygo, ITV’s director of tv, said: “The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led. We already give more choice than ever to viewers on how they watch us through ITVX and we want to present their favourite soap to them in the most digestible way.
“In a world where there may be so a lot competitors for viewers’ time and consideration, and viewing habits continue to change, we consider this is the correct quantity of episodes that fans can match into their viewing schedule to keep up to date with the reveals.
“Research insights also show us that soap viewers are increasingly looking to the soaps for their pacey storytelling. Streaming-friendly, 30-minute episodes better provide the opportunity to meet viewer expectations for storyline pace, payoff and resolution.”
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX
