Michelle Obama Reveals Why She’s Not Sad Her Daughters Are Living Life

According to E! News, Michelle supplied some insight into why she and Barack might have reacted so otherwise to their daughters leaving home. She identified that fathers often miss out on a lot of the day-to-day parenting tasks that moms sometimes deal with.

“I think fathers can be that way because you weren’t there from 6:00 to 9:00 at night; you missed a lot of it,” she said. “I’ve had so much quality time with my children, so much. I know them inside and out.”

That perspective traces up with the position Michelle has long described herself as holding throughout her daughters’ upbringing, often referring to herself as “Mom-in-Chief” during their years in the White House. Despite the unconventional atmosphere her daughters grew up in, she’s expressed nothing but delight in how they’ve turned out. During a speech at the opening of Barack’s presidential heart back in June, she told Malia and Sasha straight, “You both have grown into such brilliant and beautiful young women, making your way out there in the world.”

Malia graduated from Harvard University in 2021 with a degree in visible and environmental research, while Sasha earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern California in 2023, after briefly attending the University of Michigan before transferring. Michelle has also been candid in the past about the different parenting challenges each daughter introduced, beforehand sharing that Barack discovered Sasha “difficult” to raise, while Malia, as the oldest, leaned more toward being a “pleaser.”

With both daughters now firmly established in their own grownup lives, Michelle Obama’s feedback make it clear she’s not trying back with any remorse, just gratitude for the years she had with them and pleasure for the freedom this new chapter brings.
