A pair of Escape to the Country buyers have been left gobsmacked when host Steve Brown showcased an “unusual” addition to a home on Monday (May 5).

During immediately’s episode of the beloved BBC show, host Steve Brown was joined by Crispin and Clare, a couple stepping away from the bustle of South London for a style of tranquillity in the Cumbrian panorama.

With a hearty price range of £800,000 at their disposal, Crispin and Clare sought after a property that spelt perfection with no need for tweaks, though they have been open to rolling up their sleeves for the proper project.

Their wishlist included having at least three bedrooms for visiting buddies and household, as effectively as enough out of doors space to care for canines and goats. Their dream location was set decidedly rural but ideally within two miles of the native pub or café.

The property quest commenced in Gawthwaite, a charming village positioned on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, reviews Lancs Live.

While they admired the luminous kitchen, Steve revealed: “Attached to the kitchen is a potential dining area, and on the opposite side of the house are two sitting rooms.

“The smaller of which leads to the examine where a toilet suite is being saved. And there’s one different uncommon addition, which I’m hoping they’ll recognize.”

As they entered the space, Steve highlighted: “And yet one other reception room. So, how about this as a space?”

“Depends what’s down there,” Clare quickly replied, pointing at a trap door in the corner of the room.

Simon humorously warned, “Don’t go into that lure door,” but then piqued their curiosity by revealing, “So, what we have down there may be a cellar. Crispin, would you like to be courageous and go down and see?”

Eager for adventure, Crispin descended the stairs into a surprisingly large cellar area.

“Welcome to the pit… It is kind of large, greater than I used to be anticipating. There’s one other little lintel down right here, I’d love to know where this doorway goes,” Crispin said.

The couple were so impressed with the house that they thought it was way above their budget, but were astounded to learn that it was on the market for £495,000 – a whopping £305,000 shy of their maximum price point.

“It’s exhausting to fault the location in all honesty. The surrounding countryside is de facto the whole lot we may ask for,” Crispin revealed, but later shared his reservations over the property’s unique features.
