Fans share ‘awe’ over Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo | TV Shows

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo started off the show at the 97th annual Oscars with a performance paying homage to the history behind Wicked, and fans were left in awe of the pair’s performance in more ways than one. 

Not only did the performance, which was highly-anticipated ahead of the show, earn fans’ awe over the pair’s vocals, but their attire. Erivo arrived in a memorable gown channeling her Elphaba character, while Grande’s gown also turned heads as she took to the carpet solo. 

The pair kicked things off performing homages to The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz, before performing Defying Gravity. 

Fans quickly took to social media with their thoughts, praising the pair for their strong vocals, but also other parts as well.

Several noted that the Thank U Next singer was clearly showing how much respect she has for her co-star as they caught the way she watched from the side as Erivo belted out her parts.

Others shared their love for the pair’s dresses, which also paid homage to the history behind Wicked.

“Ariana’s dress I knew it was ruby cause the show but she got an actual shoe on her back I live,” one wrote.

“I am literally obsessed ahhhhh. The back of Ariana’s dress at the Oscars being the ruby slippers is sooo iconic I cannot deal,” another added. 

“Ariana’s dress represents the red shoes in the Wizard of Oz and Cynthia’s represents the silver shoes in The Wiz,” another shared.
