‘Fantastic’ WWII film based on ‘extraordinary’ true | UK News
Fans of WWII dramas can’t miss this film, which has acquired a slew of optimistic reviews from audiences. Anthropoid was launched in 2016 and recounts Operation Anthropoid, the 1942 assassination of Reinhard Heydrich (performed by Detlef Bothe) by exiled Czechoslovak troopers Jozef Gabčík (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubiš (Jamie Dornan).
The film adopted the 2 troopers as they had been parachuted back into their occupied nation and tried to take out the high-ranking Nazi, who was one of the architects of the Final Solution and even described by Adolf Hitler as “the man with the iron heart”. Anthropoid makes for powerful viewing as it charts the brutality meted out by the Nazis against their enemies.
The film boasted an all-star forged led by Peaky Blinders star Murphy and The Fall and 50 Shades actor Dornan.
Other forged members included Canadian Yves Saint Laurent star Charlotte Le Bon, Czech actress Anna Geislerová from Želary, Game of Thrones star Harry Lloyd, and Detectorists star Toby Jones, among others.
Anthropoid was nominated for 12 prestigious Czech Lion Awards, but sadly misplaced out to fellow WWII film A Prominent Patient.
