Fight the Trump Takeover Protests on Saturday | Political News

The Texas Democrats who fled their state to break quorum to forestall a redistricting plan from passing the state legislature are reportedly returning to Texas on Monday.

They’re taking this weekend to get some last whining in.

“It’s been really hard for the members to stay away from Texas, from their jobs, from their kids and families,” said state Rep. Vikki Goodwin, who’s also operating for the lieutenant governor seat in 2026. “It’s also very expensive with the $500 a day fine. So some members just felt like we can make a commitment for one session quorum break, but we really can’t do it indefinitely.”

Texas state Rep. John Bucy was upset he did not get to take his daughter to her first day of kindergarten. He rationalized it this manner:

They “don’t get it today,” Bucy said of his two daughters during an interview with the Tribune in downtown Chicago. “And my (older) daughter seems a little frustrated with me, but one day she’s going to — 10 years from now, she’s going to read about this, and they’re going to study Donald Trump’s authoritarian power grab. And I hope there’s some mention that her dad fought back, and I think that will matter more than missing her first day of school.”

I’m sorry, but that’s just humorous. Any fines or other personal loss is on them – they selected to flee and throw a tantrum. The only factor that historical past will say, if it says something at all about them, is that they misplaced after throwing that tantrum. They achieved nothing.

They are now searching for to recast this as a victory by arguing that California Gov. Gavin Newsom is pushing to change the maps there. That exhibits their hypocrisy – it is cool to them if Newsom tries to change issues in his state to work around the impartial commission that’s in place.

They’re also concerned in protests on Saturday. There was a “Fight the Trump Takeover” protest supposedly occurring in about 30 cities over a selection of points, including Texas redistricting and Trump’s effort to deal with D.C. crime. I surveyed locations that had been supposed to have protests. The only cities I noticed that had any real quantity of people had been Austin, Texas; Washington, D.C.; and Chicago, Illinois. When I say “real,” Austin had, according to one local station, “hundreds.” One estimate had D.C. at 1,500 at one level. That’s not a lot.

Texas state Rep. Gene Wu was out in Chicago:

I’m sure that the drag artist being concerned will help:

And if he does not make it occur, then there’s always Beto O’Rourke cursing that ought to do the trick.

Warning for graphic language:

If your occasion’s loudest and silliest voice is the man who retains dropping, you will have a drawback. Beto hilariously claims (at about 2:00 in the clip) that if Republicans lose energy, the Dems could have the “opportunity to hold free and fair elections in this country once again.” Ding, ding, ding, election denialism! It’s only unfair when Democrats lose, I suppose. He claimed they are not “going to bend the knee.” Just run away like cowards who cannot deal with dropping democratically. “Whatever the f***ing maps are, we are going to win them in this state.” Because you have got such a report of successful. Not.

Then there was the D.C. protest, which centered on Trump’s anti-crime actions, deploying federal brokers and the National Guard to the capital metropolis. The protesters chanted “Free D.C.,” which is definitely what Trump is attempting to do – free them from crime and violence.

The protesters also heckled the National Guard. One leftist even called them, “Class traitors!” Meanwhile, National Guard members are half of the army who shield all of us. And these characters deal with them this manner.

The funniest second of the day was this speaker n D.C., who insisted that “there are many more of us than there are of them.”

No, there aren’t. 77 million voted for Trump. Meanwhile, you guys have a pitiful exhibiting of radicals. If this was supposed to draw out the resistance, it did not draw out a lot.

The speaker said they’d to direct all that to the only factor that measured up to the existential risk to humanity. “The whole Trump fascist regime must be driven from power!” she ranted. The crowd cheered. That sounds a bit insurrection-y – how do they intend to do that? They’re largely just bull. And it is, again, humorous – they’re “fighting” that one thing is being achieved about crime. How loopy do you have got to be to do that?

This is where Democrats are, and it is wild to see them keep sinking themselves like this.
