Full Court Press…

I wasn’t ready to pay attention to the full oral argument on the tariff circumstances before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, but I did catch roughly the first hour, and I’ve gotta be sincere: I did not assume it went notably nicely for the administration. You never know for sure — and the ultimate dedication could also be a split-the-baby compromise that leaves no one ecstatic — but here is one key takeaway I had:

MORNING MUSING

Elections should not be reputation contests — we should not be selecting our elected representatives based on how they give the impression of being or how we really feel about them. In the ideally suited world, we would make rational decisions based on their talents, monitor report, and said agendas.

But who am I kidding? We do not live in an ideally suited world, and many — if not most — of us vote for a “team” or a character. Platforms and messaging are important, but in the end, the key issue behind most profitable candidates is this: power — or what some would possibly take into account charisma.

People gravitate in the direction of energetic, charismatic figures. So, if you need a preview of who, on the Democrat aspect, is probably going to be the “future” of that social gathering, take a gander at who generates the buzz on that aspect. That means, whether or not you prefer it or not, people like AOC and Zohran Mamdani. The Dems, in explicit, are long overdue for reinvigoration and an ushering out of the outdated guard. Who’s excited about Chuck Schumer? Steny Hoyer? Nancy Pelosi? Unfortunately, for the relaxation of us, that means we’re going to see them leaning even more durable into a more progressive agenda with their far-left mouthpieces main the method. That’s where the power is.

The good news for Republicans is that we now have a respectable bench of energetic, charismatic figures, many of them on the youthful aspect. (Donald Trump being the exception on that latter issue, but I believe we are able to all agree that he is distinctive.) The key, of course, is to harness that power and charisma and connect it to sound, sane, efficient insurance policies.

The backside line is this: If you need to know where either social gathering is headed, observe the power.

LIGHTER FARE

Subtlety is not in my canine’s lexicon, but this one has it down.
