Former Dancing With the Stars host Tom Bergeron is making a splash as the host of an underwater dance competition. Yes, you read that right, underwater.

During the Warner Bros. Discovery upfronts presentation on May 14, Television Group and US Networks Chairman and CEO Channing Dungey unveiled a new reality dancing competition series, Dancing With the Sharks, set to debut during Shark Week this summer.

The announcement stirred up excitement during the presentation, with the CEO humorously stating, “Now that’s what I call original programming,” eliciting laughter from the audience. “Whether in the water or back on dry land, our networks truly have something for everyone,” she added.

Dancing With the Sharks will be a part of the Discovery Channel’s annual Shark Week lineup, which is scheduled for July 6-13 this year.

“We’ll be diving into Shark Week with the new special Dancing with Sharks, and I promise you’ve never seen anything like this before,” Dungey declared. “Hosted by Tom Bergeron, the special event features unexpected underwater dance competitions between expert divers and their shark partners. With the help of a world-class choreographer, the divers bestow the graceful dancing skills alongside their students,” reports the Mirror US.

His exit from DWTS after an impressive 28 seasons was fraught with controversy. In October 2021, during a guest spot on the late Bob Saget’s ‘Here for You’ podcast, he confessed that he “wasn’t surprised” when he was “fired” from the reality series.

“In all candor, the show that I left was not the show that I loved,” he admitted.

“So at the end of the season, which turned out to be my final one, I had a feeling. I cleared out my dressing room of everything I really wanted… It was pretty clear that we were clashing [behind the scenes]. It wasn’t a pleasant [experience],” he disclosed.

Dancing With the Sharks is set to air during Shark Week this summer on the Discovery Channel.
